Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers
Regroup fractions greater than one between improper and mixed forms.

A mixed number and an improper fraction can name the same location. Complete denominator-sized groups form wholes; leftovers remain fractional parts.
WHAT TO KNOW
- 7/4 contains one group of 4/4 and 3/4, so it equals 1 3/4.
- Multiply whole × denominator and add the numerator to return to improper form.
- Models should use equal-size wholes and continue beyond one.
WATCH OUT
An improper fraction is not an invalid fraction; it simply has value at least one.
